Fiber Optic Cable Price 2026: Cost per Meter by Cable Type
Fiber Optic Cable Price: What Actually Drives the Number
Every buyer asks the same first question: how much does fiber optic cable cost per meter? There is no single answer, because a fiber optic cable price is the sum of four cost blocks — the optical fiber itself, the structural materials, the jacket compound, and the manufacturing yield. This guide breaks each block down so you can sanity-check any quotation you receive.
Typical Price Ranges by Cable Type
The table below shows indicative FOB China ranges for standard single mode (G.652D) constructions. Actual pricing depends on core count, sheath material, drum length and order quantity.
| Cable type and application | Typical cores | Indicative FOB price |
|---|---|---|
| FTTH drop cable (GJXH, GJYXCH) | 1–4 | US$0.03–0.12 / m |
| Indoor distribution / breakout (GJFJH) | 4–24 | US$0.15–0.60 / m |
| Outdoor duct cable, non-armoured (GYFXTY, GYFTY) | 12–96 | US$0.40–1.80 / m |
| Outdoor armoured duct cable (GYTA, GYTS) | 12–288 | US$0.55–3.20 / m |
| Direct buried cable (GYTA53, GYTY53) | 24–144 | US$0.90–3.80 / m |
| ADSS aerial cable | 12–144 | US$0.80–3.50 / m |
The Four Cost Blocks Behind Cost per Meter
- Optical fiber (30–45%). G.652D and bend-insensitive G.657.A1/A2 fiber dominate material cost. Fiber price moves with the global preform market, so quotations are usually valid for 30 days only.
- Structure (25–35%). Loose tube, FRP or steel strength member, water-blocking yarn, corrugated steel tape or aluminum tape, and the number of tubes all scale with core count.
- Jacket (10–20%). PE for outdoor duct and aerial, LSZH for indoor and riser, PVC or flame-retardant PE for special routes. Halogen-free compounds can add 20–40% over standard PE.
- Process and yield (10–20%). Stranding, sheathing, printing, and the qualification testing each reel must pass.
Why Core Count Is Not Linear
A 4-core drop cable costs more per core than a 48-core duct cable. The sheath, strength members and processing time are largely fixed per meter regardless of core count, so unit cost per core falls sharply as the cable grows. If you are planning a network, buying a single higher-count cable is almost always cheaper per subscriber than several low-count cables.
What Is Usually Included in a Factory Quotation
- Cable price per meter or per kilometer (FOB, CIF or EXW depending on terms)
- Wooden drum, inner packing and drum return terms
- Test report per reel (attenuation, tensile, crush, jacket thickness)
- MOQ, lead time and payment terms
A quotation that only lists a unit price is incomplete. Huifiber quotes always state drum length, packing method, testing scope and validity period, so total landed cost can be calculated before you commit.
How to Get an Accurate Fiber Optic Cable Quotation
Send these five items and you will receive a precise quotation instead of a range:
- Cable type or model (for example GYTA, GYTS, GYFXTY, GJXH, ADSS)
- Fiber type and core count (G.652D, G.657.A2, OM3, 4/12/24/48/96 cores)
- Route and installation method (duct, aerial, direct buried, indoor riser)
- Required span or tensile strength, and jacket material
- Total quantity and delivery destination
Huifiber is a fiber optic cable manufacturer in Dongguan, China. We supply from one drum to full container loads, and we provide free samples of standard constructions so you can verify quality before placing a bulk order.
